About the event
Marina Beach, and its colonial buildings, are often considered the prime tourist attractions in Madras. But what preceded the British colonial settlement in the area? Are there any remnants of that pre-colonial past?
In this tour, we explore two sides of Marina Beach, highlighting the attention that has been given to the colonial past and the historical importance of the forgotten fisherfolk community that has been pushed to its margins. After viewing the grand colonial architecture, we will interact with members of the fishing community and hear their stories.
The walk ends with an optional meal at a fishing community restaurant, which is an additional 500 m from the end point of the walk.
