About the event
Join us for a unique collaborative tour series, uncovering the historical connections and resonances between Oxford and Kolkata. Combining academic research and historical discussions, participants will be immersed in a virtual tour experience unearthing the imperial entanglements of these two cities. The series will include several tours, each focusing on a different theme.
The “Orientalism: inventing the East” tour highlights how the relationship between Britain and India was framed by a corpus of representations and theories aimed at othering indigenous agency and culture while building the colonial relationship. By centering on Oxford, as a centre of knowledge-production, and Kolkata, the political capital of the British Raj in India, this collaboration will question how these frameworks were built.
The tour will be held via zoom - an invitation link will be attached to the ticket/sent 24 hours before the tour. Logging in from a computer or tablet is advised. Please make…
