About the event
Tong Atchew or Yang Daijang came to India in 1778 and settled in a small hamlet 40km south of Calcutta. Soon it grew into a thriving Chinese settlement called Achipur, named after Tong Atchew himself. While, except for a temple, there are no traces of the Chinese settlement in Achipur anymore, the Indian Chinese community considers the village as their root in India.
