About the event
Decorating brick temples and mosques of Bengal with beautiful terracotta ornamentations became a tradition in the late medieval period. Starting under the royal patronage, terracotta religious architecture became distributed all throughout south Bengal via local landlords. Soon terracotta ornamentations on religious spaces became a way to express financial and political clout in the countryside, and in the fledgeling early colonial cities in Bengal.
This workshop led by archaeologist Dr Tathagata Neogi will take you on a journey through various nuances of terracotta religious architecture of Bengal and their semiotic impacts on politics and society.
The workshop will be conducted via Zoom. Please check your Spam folder in case you have not received the link or get in touch with us at contact@immersivetrails.com for any queries.
